NMAA Scope of Practice

A Nuclear Medicine Advanced Associate (NMAA) is an advanced practice nuclear medicine clinician who works as a “physician extender” under the supervision of a licensed physician and enhances patient care in the diagnostic imaging, theranostic, and radiotherapy environments.

As a member of a physician directed team, the nuclear medicine advanced associate performs invasive and noninvasive procedures under the supervising physician and acts as a liaison between patients, imaging technologists, authorized users, and other healthcare team members.

In addition to maintaining advanced certification, the Nuclear Medicine Advanced Associates must maintain their nuclear medicine technologist credentials; therefore, inherently encompassing the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Scope of Practice (NMT SOP) in addition to an advanced scope of practice that extends the NMAA’s roles and responsibilities.
