ERF SNMMI Brain Advisory Committee Mentored Research Grant

Overview

The Goldenberg Family Foundation has partnered with organizations such as the NIH Foundation and The Education and Research Foundation for Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, in memory of Marc Daniel Goldenberg to develop and/or support numerous initiatives designed to recruit and retain students, trainees, and early-career scientists on a career trajectory in biomedical research, in areas that include but are not limited to neuroscience and hematology/oncology. Their gift to support SNMMI members aligns with this goal and passion, by supporting an annual mentored research award (grant) for young investigators. Among meritorious applications received by highly qualified SNMMI-member mentor-mentee teams, priority is given to those focused on neuroscience.

Scope

SNMMI’s Brain Advisory Committee will provide a mentored research award (grant) for young investigators. Specifically, a single $20,000 grant per year (to be awarded for the next 5 years), via the SNMMI review process based on 1) scientific merit of the proposed work, 2) qualification of the candidate; and 3) mentor(s) and a mentorship plan, similar to other young investigator/mentored research awards. This grant will not provide for indirect costs (facilities & administration) taken by the awardee’s home institution at this time.

Selection Criteria

Award criteria will be determined by the Brain Advisory Committee based on their prescribed application and award criteria. Applicants must be medical students, residents, fellows or graduate students, or be within 7 years of completing a PhD or certified nuclear medicine training program or other residency of fellowship training program. Applicants must also be a member of SNMMI and the BIC.

Reporting Criteria

Annual progress reports will be provided by SNMMI to include, for each awardee:

  • Awardee and institution name
  • Project description
  • Project progress
  • Major outcome
  • Publications
  • Extramural grants
  • Intellectual properties
  • Challenges and delays

Recipients should also be aware that ERF, SNMMI, or their institution may have additional reporting requirements.

Applications open in August 1, 2025.
