Reston, VA (June 30, 2026)—The Journal of Nuclear
Medicine (JNM)—the flagship publication of the Society of Nuclear Medicine
and Molecular Imaging—has maintained its status as one of the top medical
imaging journals worldwide, according to new data just released in Clarivate's
2025 Journal Citation Reports. JNM’s impact factor increased from 9.1 to
9.6, ranking eighth overall among the 217 medical imaging journals included in
the analysis.
“Amid rapid advances in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging, it has been
essential for JNM to evolve in step with the research, technologies, and
scientific conversations shaping the field,” said Johannes Czernin, MD, JNM
editor-in-chief and professor of molecular and medical pharmacology and chief
of the Ahmanson Translational Theranostics Division
at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. “This recognition underscores the
journal’s continued relevance and its role as a trusted, high-impact resource
for the global community.”
In addition to its higher impact factor, JNM saw a nearly 10 percent
increase in its total number of citations from 2024 (29,698) to 2025 (32,569). The
journal’s immediacy index, which tracks how often articles are cited in the
year they are published, also rose from 2.6 to 2.8. JNM continued to
perform well in other categories, including its journal citation index (a score
based on normalized citations across three full years of citation data), Eigenfactor (a measure of importance in the scientific
community), and article influence score.
“JNM has an incredible editorial team and support
staff who work diligently to ensure that the journal is of the highest quality,”
notes Czernin. “I am deeply grateful to them, as well
as our authors and peer reviewers from around the world, whose dedication has
made JNM the outstanding journal is it today.”
The Journal Citation Reports provide key citation impact trends, powered by a
range of indicators, descriptive data and compelling visualizations, enabling
meaningful comparisons and insights. For more than 50 years, Journal Citation
Reports has been trusted by the global academic community as a reliable
resource for identifying leading journals in their fields.
