Reston, VA (February 10,
2026)--The Society of Nuclear
Medicine and Molecular Imaging announced today that Ken Herrmann, MD, MBA, has
been selected as the next editor-in-chief of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine
(JNM). Herrmann will begin a five-year term on January 1, 2027, with a transition
period beginning July 1, 2026.
Recognized as one of the world s top medical imaging journals, JNM
ranks seventh among 212 journals in the medical imaging category, according to
Clarivate s Journal Citation Reports. The journal is an essential global
resource in nuclear medicine, molecular imaging and theranostics.
Herrmann will succeed Johannes Czernin, MD, professor and vice
chair of the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at the David
Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. During his 10-year tenure as
editor-in-chief, Czernin guided JNM through a period of significant growth,
strengthening its scientific rigor while expanding its global reach and
influence across the medical imaging field.
Currently chair of nuclear medicine at the University of
Duisburg-Essen in Germany, Herrmann brings more than two decades of
international leadership in nuclear medicine and theranostics. His background spans
clinical expertise, translational research and strategic management, with experience
in Europe, North America and Asia. He practiced for almost a decade in the
United States at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and at the
University of California in Los Angeles.
Trained in medicine in Germany, Herrmann completed a nuclear
medicine residency in Munich and earned an MBA from the University of Zurich. He
has authored more than 700 publications and is a long-time contributor and
associate editor for JNM.
"JNM stands at a pivotal moment, as academic publishing, global
research collaboration and digital communication continue to evolve at an
unprecedented pace," Herrmann said. "As editor-in-chief, I am committed to
strengthening JNM's global engagement and impact ensuring the journal reflects
the full breadth of scientific excellence, diversity and leadership across all continents."
A full announcement detailing Herrmann's vision and editorial
priorities will be released on July 1.
