Toronto, Ontario—Julie Dawn Bolin, MS, CNMT, program director of Nuclear Medicine Technology at GateWay Community College in Phoenix, Arizona, and nuclear medicine technologist at Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona, has been elected as the 2024-25 president for the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technologist Section (SNMMI-TS). The new slate of officers was introduced during the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging’s 2024 Annual Meeting, held June 8-11 in Toronto.
“Taking on the role of SNMMI-TS president, I am deeply committed to advancing our field, particularly in educating the next generation of nuclear medicine technologists. It’s imperative that we prioritize building a robust workforce pipeline, which involves not only engaging middle school, high school, and college students about nuclear medicine but also providing continuing education for current professionals to adapt to the evolving imaging and radiotherapy landscape,” stated Bolin.
In addition to bolstering educational initiatives, Bolin intends to champion SNMMI-TS advocacy efforts and rally members to actively support the profession. Addressing the pressing need for trained nuclear medicine professionals, Bolin underscores the importance of ensuring an ample supply of qualified individuals entering the field.
Moreover, Bolin’s passion extends to promoting access to education and healthcare, especially in rural communities and among underrepresented and underserved populations. Through SNMMI-TS’s initiatives, Bolin aims to alleviate access-to-care issues by fostering education and healthcare opportunities in marginalized communities.
Bolin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri. She received her Certificate in Nuclear Medicine Technology from the Research Medical Center School of Nuclear Medicine Technology in Kansas City, Missouri, and went on to earn a master’s degree in Biological Science from the University of St. Joseph in Hartford, Connecticut.
She began her career as a research assistant at Stoecker and Associates in Rolla, Missouri. She then moved to Arizona, where she held nuclear medicine technologist positions at Tucson Medical Center for nearly 15 years, culminating as technologist in charge, before moving to Banner University Medical Center, Tucson, in 2022. Bolin has been with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program at GateWay Community College since 2007 and is currently teaching faculty and the program director.
An active member of SNMMI-TS and the Pacific Southwest SNMMI-TS Chapter, Bolin serves as PSWTC Treasurer and Leadership Academy Chair, and on several other PSWTC committees. Within the SNMMI-TS, Bolin is an active member of several committees including the Educator Committee, Scope of Practice Committee, and Advocacy Committee (as an Arizona Technologist Advocacy Group member). She is the Education Specialty Area representative on the SNMMI-TS National Council of Representatives. Previously, Bolin co-chaired the SNMMI-TS Educator Committee and contributed to the 6th edition of the SNMMI-TS Nuclear Medicine Technology Competency-Based Curriculum Guide.
Bolin is an SNMMI-TS Fellow and has received the League for Innovation-League Excellence Award, JNMT Editor’s Choice Award for best continuing education article, and the Maricopa Excellence in Teaching Nuclear Medicine Technology Scholarship. She has participated in the SNMMI-TS Leadership Academy and Advanced Leadership Academy, as well as the Pacific Southwest Technologist Chapter Leadership Academy.
The SNMMI Technologist Section president-elect for 2024-25 is Cybil Nielsen, MBA, CNMT, FSNMMI-TS, Long Beach, Mississippi. Elected to leadership of SNMMI for 2024-25 were Cathy Sue Cutler, PhD, FSNMMI, Upton, New York, as president; Jean-Luc C. Urbain, MD, PhD, FASNC, Buffalo, New York, as president-elect; and Heather Jacene, MD, Boston, Massachusetts, as vice president-elect.
